Policies and Procedures:
Center Time:
- Please make sure to accompany children into and out of the center. Ms. Loribeth may or may not need to speak with you to show you the children's work and/or discuss strategies with you.
- Alloted working time is 45 min/session for math or reading alone, one hour 15 minutes for both. Please be punctual in pick-up processes in order to promote better center flow.
- Please make sure to note any questions or comments in the books themselves. If you have a major question that needs to be addressed during class, please put a sticky note on the sheet poking out at the top so we can locate the issue quickly and devote time to it during the class session.
- The better your information, the better my plan. Please ensure that names, dates and times are written on the front covers of all booklets.
Absence Policies:
- What you are paying for each month is the child's daily work to be customized to them. Class time is our opportunity to check the correctness of our plan. We are not a tutoring program, and do not use class time for tutoring. We think of ourselves as a "guided study enrichment program." Absence from class still means that we will provide work to the child, but our plan may be needing some amendment. If your child does not attend class, you will still be expected to pick up work within 24-36 hours of the missed class so that the child stays on track. There is no refund for missed class sessions. Work will be left behind in a mutually agreed location for pickup. Please drop off any completed work at that time.
- Our worksheet order for the following month must be submitted by the 25th, and we must be notified by the 25th of any intent to discontinue or take a break for the following month. Failure to notify will result in a service fee equal to the amount of booklets ordered for the student.
Homework at Home:
- Parents must make sure that daily work is attempted at home by "flip checking" the book for completion after the student has finished their assignment. This procedure is required each day. Your involvement and feedback is a vital part of ensuring that the proper work is given to the child.
- Doing so helps parents to spot "trouble spots" that children may be having and eliminate needless repetition. Children who have particular weaknesses will often leave pages blank if they know the parent will not, or does not, check daily. We need to catch these when they happen. Regardless of the child's age, all human beings require accountability to perform their best. Do not wait until coming into class to discover the child has not done their homework.
- Generally speaking, it is not a good idea for parents to send students to their rooms to finish their work. You always want the student in a place where they can be easily observed while they work. Ask yourself, "Does the child look comfortable and interested in their work, or are they showing signs of disengagement, difficulty, resistance, faces, leg movements, fingers, etc?"
- After approximately 7 p.m., most of us suffer a dramatic decay in cognitive acquisition capacity. Consider having your child complete their work every day at the same time early in the evening. Consistency leads to excellence.
